My Story
When I joined Scentsy in 2012, it was just to get a discount on the things I wanted. Never would I have dreamed it would change my life, give our family financial stability, take my husband and me traveling around the world, or that I would become a leader helping others achieve their goals. You see, at the time I suffered from debilitating anxiety and panic attacks which required the need of a service dog to get out of my house. Other than going to the dance studio with my kids, I stayed at home in fear. My dog went to church, restaurants, even to the store with me, but that was a rarity.
My husband reassured me that we had the money to do it when I joined, but, I had that overwhelming Mom feeling of guilt, the one that says “you should’ve put that money towards a bill or one of the kids.” It was that moment, my mindset changed from getting that discount to earning that money back. What better way to do it than having my first ever party! Now, this was a terrifying event for me. First, I had no clue how to do a party, nor had been to a party. Second, I didn’t know anyone, because my social circle was nonexistent. Third, I am definitely not a salesperson, so there was no way I could sell to anyone if someone showed up. Last but not least, HEELLLLOOOOO, what about those panic attacks?!?? If you’ve ever had one you know that it feels like you are about to die, but it didn’t matter because my desire to give back to my family was much stronger. With every excuse in hand, I still set out to learn everything in our Scentsy Training Center about parties. Knowing I was going to fail anyways, I could at least say I tried my best. We invited family, people my husband knew, and the only two people I knew. My party actually had a great turn out, and boy was I sweating bullets. There I was, in front of all these people, about to talk about something I love to use in my home. With all eyes on me, I sat on the floor, with my service dog and my 13 year old daughter at my side. In a very quiet and dull voice, I flipped through each page of the catalog, reading exactly what it said on the page. In my mind, I knew everyone thought “why were they wasting their time with me.” My anxiety was taking over and I had to end this party, I had to get these people out of my house. The training video said to pass around the scents at the end of my presentation, and I thought YES! My way out! This was my chance to say “Here, now go!” Then I can tell my family I tried, but in the end I failed, I’m sorry. Then I noticed no one was leaving, and everyone was sniffing. What the heck! What is going on with these people, don’t they know it’s over and they can leave? Then I saw it. The whole reason I didn’t need to know how to do a party, I didn’t need to know anyone there, and I certainly didn’t need to be a salesperson, it was Scentsy’s magic. They all were smelling the most wonderful scents, the same scents I fell in love with, talking about what they loved about them and what it reminded them of. Holy Bananas! They were writing down what they wanted to order! Are you kidding me?!? Closing my party, I had met my goal of earning back what I spent, and even booked 2 parties from it. BEST of all, I didn't die!
I will never forget my first party, and how that one moment in time changed mine and my family’s lives forever. With each party I lived through, my confidence began to grow, my self-worth became stronger, and my attacks started to ease. I found myself going places on purpose without my service dog, and eventually without my family from time to time. I began to offer the Scentsy opportunity to others hoping to add value to their lives. I realized that what I enjoy most is helping guide others along their Scentsy journey. Helping them to reach their own goals and dreams, makes my heart the happiest.
Scentsy helps me to be a better version of myself, a better role model for my daughter, it helps my family financially, takes us on dream vacations, and gave me the ability to overcome many things I was too fearful to do. Last but not least, it provides me the chance to offer this blessing to others in hopes that they will find value and purpose in their Scentsy journey.
